Save lives.

Our Causes

Girl Child Education

The overall boost to ending girl child marriage, preventing early childbearing, and investing in girls' education could provide is substantial—given the recent slowdown of the economy. At 4.5 percent a year, the average rate of growth for the past five years is far smaller than the 7.0 percent or more achieved in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Early Pregnancies

Approximately 90% of births to girls aged 15-19 in developing countries occur within early marriage where there is often an imbalance of power, no access to contraception and pressure on girls to prove their fertility. Pregnant girls often drop out of school, limiting opportunities for future employment and perpetuating the cycle of poverty. In many cases, girls perceive pregnancy to be a better option than continuing their education.

Poverty And Early Marriages

Early marriage limits gilrs opportunities and future employment prospects, and has long-term effects on their families. Girls who leave school have worse health and economic outcomes than those who continue their education, and eventually their children and families fare worse as well.
